Review: Live like a king in the Lion City at Hotel Telegraph

Singapore’s vibrance and proximity (land area of 724.2 square kilometres) mean travellers don’t have to venture far from the concrete jungle before they’re surrounded by the actual rainforest.

This city is the financial capital of Asia, featuring a great and varied selection of hotels for all types of travellers.

The Hotel Telegraph is a special one though and a stand-out with its spectacular façade. Constructed in 1924, the 4-storey curved building, designed in a classic neo-classical style, is old-world charm among the hustle and bustle of a very modern Singapore. Travellers can relax on arrival with a Singapore Sling and marvel at the view from the rooftop bar.

The location

The Hotel Telegraph is conveniently situated near key business hubs like Marina Bay Financial Centre, Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar. The hotel is just across from Lau Pa Sat, another of Singapore’s heritage icons, and where you can find some of the tastiest street food in Singapore.

The Hotel Telegraph is conveniently located near Merlion Park and Gardens by the Bay for visitors looking to take in the stunning and unique architecture for which Singapore is renowned.

The Stay

The façade wows travellers from first impression and is striking against the backdrop of the more modern structures behind it. It really is quite splendid.

The hotel’s 134 rooms are split across a cool and modern wing and a heritage wing. Formerly a Cable & Wireless building, it is one of the gems of heritage Singapore. The interior design of the hotel has captured its heritage beautifully, with a French influence interspersed with Chinese history.

At only four storeys, the building was built in 1927 and designed by F.G. Lundon, an architect from Singapore’s oldest architectural firm Swan and Maclaren.

The coffee is a must for any busy traveller and the hotel does not disappoint here with the perfect cappuccino served by the barista in the lobby lounge. The dining room is an all-day café, restaurant and bar located at the entrance and features a wide range of food options fit for a variety of travellers.

  • Four MRT lines are just minutes away by foot.
  • The hotel’s proximity to key business hubs like the Marina Bay Financial Centre and Raffles Place make it perfect for business travellers.
  • Part of the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels group.

Flights

Singapore Airlines (SIA) recently announced the Airbus A380 will return to Melbourne for the first time in almost four years, while Sydney will receive a second daily A380.

From 16 May 2023 through to 28 October 2023, SQ237, from Singapore to Melbourne, and the return flight, SQ228, will be operated by the A380 instead of the current Boeing 777-300ER.
